Yaritza Acosta attended Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, NC as a member of their pre-vet program. She graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a minor in wildlife rehabilitation. While studying there she was introduced to the Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute, where she learned most of her wildlife rehab skills. After a year-long student internship she volunteered as a student mentor for incoming freshmen her remaining three years.

She also trained with non-releasable ambassador animals during her time at the Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute. Yaritza also has experience volunteering at The Wolf Sanctum in Bakersville, NC where she fed and socialized with abused wolves and wolfdogs.

After graduation, she relocated to Miami, FL and started volunteering at Pelican Harbor Seabird Station in August 2012 while also working at Pet Supermarket. She was brought on staff four months later and has held a variety of positions since then. In April of 2013 she became a full time staff member and is now the Rehabilitation Manager for Pelican Harbor Seabird station. She is currently taking continuing education courses and applying for veterinary school.
