Tickets are FREE - suggested donation $5

Join Debris Free Oceans for an eye-opening presentation on the history and harms of plastic pollution and how each of us can be part of the solution. This interactive talk explores the scale of the plastic pollution crisis and its far-reaching effects on wildlife, climate, and human health. Attendees will learn how plastics move through our environment, from production to disposal, and discover tangible ways individuals, businesses, and governments can take action. Guided by the zero waste hierarchy, this talk empowers Miamians to close the loop on waste and protect our local ecosystems. This talk is made possible through Debris Free Oceans' Chef Andrew Scholar Program, dedicated to training the next generation of ocean leaders.

Speaker:

Abigail Mikes - Curent Intern (2025-26)
Abigail is originally from Phoenix, Arizona, but has always been extremely passionate about the ocean. She is a junior at the University of Miami, double majoring in Marine Affairs and English with a minor in Ecosystem Science & Policy. On campus, Abigail serves on the E-board for Ocean Awareness Week and Florida's Ocean Advocacy Team (FLOAT) as well as a peer counselor for incoming students at Rosenstiel. She is especially interested in ocean conservation and advancing policies and laws that will protect our marine environments.
