Compassion, Connection, Community: A Mural for a Wildlife Hospital and Education Center in Oakland Grove

Thank you for your interest in submitting a proposal for Pelican Harbor Seabird Station’s Mural Project. This community initiative invites artists to develop and produce a large-scale and highly-visible mural on the eastern façade of the non-profit organization’s new wildlife hospital and education center in Miami’s Oakland Grove neighborhood located at 399 NE 82nd Terrace. The finished mural will be approximately 20’ H x 55’ W, and visible from the Brightline train as well as from vehicular traffic on 82nd Street.

Please complete this application to be considered. Applications are due by October 30th, 2025. PHSS and Miami-Dade’s District 5 invite local and regional artists to apply for this project, intended to educate and inspire the community about co-existing with and caring for Miami’s native wildlife and the importance of conservation education.

PHSS is Miami’s premier native wildlife hospital, where over 2,000 animals of about 150 different species are treated each year. Founded in 1980 on the 79th Street Causeway, the non-profit organization will soon move to its new home near Miami’s Little River, allowing it to expand as a world-class wildlife rescue, rehab, release, and education center. The organization is dedicated to improving the lives of sick, injured, and orphaned native wildlife with the goal of releasing healthy animals back into the ecosystem, thus enabling future generations. PHSS embodies the highest level of patient care, compassion, and integrity while promoting community engagement on the importance of wildlife conservation.

We are seeking artists who are passionate about community engagement, storytelling, and using their creative practice as a catalyst for spreading awareness about the natural environment.

Who We’re Looking For

Experienced muralists and visual artists who can contribute their skills to create and execute a finished mural that artistically conveys the organization’s vision and mission. Artists with a lived experience in District 5 are strongly encouraged to apply.
