Adrian P. Chapman was formerly President and Chief Executive Officer of WGL Holdings, Inc. and Washington Gas and also served as President, U.S. Utilities, for Washington Gas’ parent company, AltaGas Ltd.
Bringing more than 38 years of leadership experience in the energy industry, Mr. Chapman has driven operational success and sustained growth in a variety of management and executive roles at Washington Gas throughout his career with one of the nation’s premier energy companies. As President and CEO, he was responsible for overseeing all functions and activities of the regulated natural gas utility such as operations, customer service, engineering, construction, field operations, safety, rates, gas acquisition, information technology and human resources.
In his role as president of U.S. Utilities for AltaGas, Mr. Chapman oversaw the operations of SEMCO Energy Inc. and ENSTAR Natural Gas Company.
Prior to being appointed to these executive positions, Mr. Chapman served as President and Chief Operating Officer of WGL Holdings, Inc., and Washington Gas since October 1, 2009. Before his term as COO, he held a range of executive management roles and led several teams that contributed to the company’s development, including Vice President of Operations, Regulatory Affairs and Energy Acquisition, Manager of Interruptible Customer Sales, Manager of Economic Analysis, and Director of Regulatory Affairs.
Mr. Chapman is the independent Chairman of the Board of Transurban Chesapeake which comprises Transurban’s Greater Washington Area operational assets including the 495 Express Lanes, 95 Express Lanes and 395 Express Lanes.
Mr. Chapman is a member of the Board of Directors of the Southern Gas Association and former chair. He is also a past member of the Board of Directors of the American Gas Association (AGA), the Gas Technology Institute, Greater Washington Partnership, Greater Washington Board of Trade, Virginia Business Council, and the Virginia Early Childhood Foundation. He is a past member of the Governor of Maryland’s Workforce Investment Board and past Chairman of the Board of LEAD Virginia, a statewide leadership program, and a graduate of the LEAD Virginia Class of 2006. Mr. Chapman is also a member of the Goodwill of Greater Washington Board and past Chair and past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce.
He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and his Master of Arts degree in Economics from George Mason University.
